The Artery is a Madison based online art gallery and event calendar, devoted to promoting Wisconsin artists. Our mission is to help artists sell their artwork and to create more awareness of art events happening in Wisconsin, especially in the Madison area. We provide an online venue for these local artists to easily sell their work online and feature local artists in our blog and social media. We want to help you sell your art! Whether you’re an established artist or an art student or a software engineer who has a passion for photography, we would love you to become part of our community!

Our online store exclusively promotes Wisconsin artists! As a member of The Artery community, you can sell your artwork on our website and benefit from the power of our community voice! You can post up to 50 pieces of art, and there is no governance on how you price your work. It’s up to you! By being part of The Artery community, you can quickly and easily sell your art online, and we’ll help you promote it. That way, you can focus on your art!

Plus, 10% of all the net proceeds will be put toward The Artery Scholarship Fund, which will go to an underprivileged student who is applying to or attending art school or for art supplies for a program in need. The more sales we have each year, the larger that scholarship fund will be, and the more budding artists we can support!

How much is a membership to The Artery?

The Artery membership is $75/year or $100 if you sign up for 2 years at once. There is a commission taken for artwork sold on the site (see below for commission fees). Your annual membership includes:

  • Your own store on our website with up to 50 art pieces for sale.
  • Online access to your account where you can manage your own products, change pricing, etc.
  • Article about you and your artwork featured on our website home page and on our blog.
  • Promotion of your artwork in our e-newsletter and social media.
  • A backlink to your website, Facebook page or other social media to drive traffic to your site.
  • Your art events promoted on our art calendar for free.

Payment for your Artery membership will be billed annually. You can cancel your Artery membership at any time.

What is the commission for selling my art on your site?

After a sale is complete (yay!), The Artery will keep a 17% commission on the sale and pay the rest out to the artist.

This commission helps fund our website, pay for the payment processing, and helps grow The Artery Scholarship Fund.

What happens when I sell something?

When someone buys a piece of your art on our website, you will receive a notification in your vendor dashboard with all the details: What was sold, who bought it, their shipping details, etc. Depending on the type of art sold, you will then ship the art or arrange a local pick-up with the buyer within 10 days of the sale. If for some reason 10-day turnaround is not possible, you must post this clearly in your product listings or communicate directly with buyer if there are extenuating circumstances.

How do I get paid for the art I sell?

After you have sold $50 worth of goods,  visit the Withdraw page and you will be able to withdraw your revenue directly to your bank account or into your PayPal account.

Sellers are required to submit a W-9 tax form to The Artery after they make their first sale, and will receive a 1099 tax form at the end of the year.

How do I get started selling my art online?

Simply, Fill out the following form: Registration Form.

Afterwards, you will have the ability to create your own shop, add your products, and set your prices.

Why should I join The Artery?

Besides being able to sell your art on our website, as a member of The Artery community, you can post events on our calendar for free! Events can include anything that has to do with art in the Madison area, such as gallery showings, art showings at other venues, arts and craft fairs and more! We’ll be cross promoting all our Artery member’s events on various social media outlets. We will interview you for an article on our blog and promote your artwork on our social media. In addition, your store will feature a link to your website and/or Facebook page, which will help drive traffic to your website and Facebook page.

Do I have to live in Wisconsin to be a member of The Artery?

Yes, you must live in Wisconsin to be considered for membership. This website is about promoting local art and supporting local art events. If you are from another area and think there is a need for a similar website or service in your area, please feel free to email us and let us know your thoughts!

Can I sell my artwork elsewhere?

Absolutely. At The Artery, we want you to sell as much of your work in as many places as possible. We only require that you actively manage your account and immediately delete any art products off our site that you may have sold elsewhere.
