A red winged blackbird sitting on late winter sumac. I took this photo many years ago and didn’t like it. It was only recently that I realised what I didn’t like. In the final image I desaturated the background and the sumac stalks to really emphasize the bird and the seed heads. This is now one of my favorite images.Taken at Dunns Marsh, Seminole Hwy.

I am a nature and landscape photographer based in Madison, WI, with images from around the world. I am originally from Australia, but have lived in New Brunswick, Canada, and Socorro, New Mexico, before moving to Madison. I am trained as a geologist, and still teach introductory geology classes (need to pay the bills somehow). I am a self taught photographer, but am always learning.
The love of the outdoors has strongly influenced my photography, initially in Australia, but then in the the NW Territories of Canada (I was there doing geology), and the desert of New Mexico. Now I find the beauty around where I live in Madison.
